The path to a good job is enhanced with education and training. Job Growers Incorporated staff can help with skill assessment, skill upgrades, occupational training and certification, and/or vocational education. Resources are available to help pay for education and training. Job Growers staff at the WorkSource Centers will help get you on the right path.

 

Photovoltaic Workshops

Job Growers Incorporated and the Chemeketa Center for Business and Industry are co-hosting an entry-level training that provides an introduction to the principles of photovoltaic systems. The workshop series began on September 23. Approximately 35 people signed up to attend the training which meets every Friday for five weeks in the Chemeketa Center for Business and Industry. Due to the popularity of the training, the introductory course may be scheduled again in December. Current Workshops

Stress Solutions
This workshop helps participants take a deep breath and pinpoint the stressors that are keeping them from enjoying a full and productive life. Build your personal stress action plan and finally relax.

Basic Computer Skills
Knowing how to use a computer is necessary in today’s workforce. During this workshop you will learn the different parts of a computer, how to use the mouse, practice your typing skills, create emails,  and the basics of MS Word.

Personal Accountability
Getting a great job is all up to you. No one can do it for you, but you can find a great job by following the principals and tips found in this workshop. You will learn how to handle stress, set goals, manage time, understand and build a budget, and package and present yourself positively.

Basic Email Skills
In this workshop, you will gain an in depth understanding of using email in the workplace to communicate with peers and management. You will also learn how to edit, proofread, and use email as a productive communication tool.

Basic Business Writing & Grammar
This workshop will help you gain a wealth of shortcuts, easy to remember tips and insider’s secrets to help you convey your message. This includes avoiding embarrassing mistakes and transforming a blank page into a bold message.

Résumés Writing
Résumés are marketing tools that tell your story to employers in a positive way. Most importantly – they sell employers on how you can help them accomplish their goals.
Prerequisite: Basic Computer Skills 1 & 2

Basic Math in the Workplace
This workshop will help you understand basic mathematical computations and concepts such as making change, calculating percentages, applying discounts, basic addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication. These are necessary skills required by today’s employers.

Interviewing Skills
Interviewing is your time to sell yourself. This step-by-step class shows you how to be at your best as you highlight how you can fulfill the employer’s needs. In this workshop you will learn how to anticipate questions and answers, communicate effectively and display confidence and credibility.

Basic Business Skills
Key business skills are necessary for jobseekers to be successful in getting a job. In this workshop, you will learn how to manage your time well, overcome procrastination, and write confidently.

Step by Step Action Plan
Finding a great job isn’t easy, but you can do it if you know how. Individuals who attend this workshop will through gaining the skills, tips and tools you need to be successful.

Start Your Own Business (Not offered in all locations)
If you are considering starting your own business, attend this information session hosted by the MERIT program and learn about what resources are available to help.

Managing Your Money
Food, shelter and the necessities. Learn how to work your budget in a way that not only allows you to survive without a job/layoff but to make your money do what you need it to during this already stressful time.

National Career Readiness Certificate
“The Career Readiness Certificate (CRC) is a computer-based assessment of your reading, math and locating information skills. Depending on scores, completers may earn either a silver, gold or bronze certificate which will show employers you have the skills necessary to be successful in the workplace.

OVRS Orientation (Not offered in all locations)
OVRS - Office of Vocational Rehabilitation Services orientation provides an overview of services and potential benefits for eligible customers working with a VR Counselor.  To register for this workshop – you will need to call (503)378-3587 or (503)378 2483.

Open Computer Lab
Customers can use this time to work on the computers to increase thier skills with computer programs, fine tune thier résumés, sharpen thier typing skills or any other job search realated activities.

Este taller le dará la experiencia de tomar parte en una entrevista verdadera donde usted proporcionará respuestas a las preguntas mas comunes en una entrevista.

Preparación Para Entrevistas
¿Cómo están sus habilidades para entrevistar? Esta sesión cubre consejos para antes, durante y después de una entrevista de trabajo. Aprenderá cómo crear una impresión positiva y cómo contestar preguntas comunes e difíciles durante una entrevista.

Resumen (CV) Y Aplicaciónes
¡Antes de que lo vean en persona, ellos lo verán en papel! Esta sesión incluye contenido básico para crear su resumen, las estrategias para fijar un resumen hacía un trabajo y puntos específicos en cómo concentrar en su aplicación hacía el empleador.

Computación Basica-A
Aprenderá a navegar programas y el Internet. Como generar y obtener accesso a su correo electrónico. Obtendrá practica en el teclado y una introducción al programa Discoverware.

Computación Basica-B
Práctica adicional del Internet y atajos usando capacitaciónes avanzadas. Exporte y adjunte documentos a su correo electrónico para su búsqueda de trabajo.
