Board Application

 

Board Membership Criteria

Participation Requirements

·         Attend the required new board member orientation.

·         Attend at least 50% of the board’s quarterly meetings (including retreats) annually.  Any Director failing to meet this criterion will be considered to have resigned.  Directors must contact the President or Executive Director if they are unable to attend a meeting.

·         Serve on at least one standing or ad hoc committee annually.

 

Meetings

Directors are asked to block 3 hours for a mandatory orientation, 2.5 hours for each board meeting and the entire day for the annual board retreat.  Committee levels of engagement vary, but Directors should plan on about 1½ hours bi-monthly.

Terms

Directors serve three year terms, which are renewable.  There are no term limits.

 

Membership criteria

Members must be individuals with optimum policymaking authority within the organizations, agencies, or entities they represent. Members may represent more than one entity. In addition: 

·         Business representatives must be owners, chief executives or operating officers of business, business executives, employers with optimum policymaking or hiring authority, or represent businesses with employment opportunities that are typical of the local area.  A majority of members must be from the business membership category; 

·         Non-business members must also be executives or high level professionals within their organizations with optimum policymaking or hiring authority;

·         Through their employment, members must be actively engaged in workforce development, education/training, or economic development on a regular basis;

·         Members must be in a position within their businesses, organizations, or agencies to actively contribute to workforce development solutions, beyond making recommendations; and

·         Members must actively use their expertise, energy and talents to assist in meeting the Enterprise ’s stated mission and vision.

 

Application Process

Prospective members must submit an application, resume, and letter of support from a local business organization or business trade association to the Membership Committee.  Eligible applicants will be interviewed by a member of the committee.  Applicants will then be forwarded to the Jobs Council Board of County Commissioners for appointment.
